Hotel Belmar

Hotel Belmar

Nestled three hours from either international airport in the mountaintops of the Monteverde Reserve you’ll find a locally-owned, luxury eco-boutique retreat, Hotel Belmar. With over 30 years of sustainable practices, numerous awards, and the only hotel in Monteverde to claim all Five Leaves from CST certification (Certificate for Sustainable Tourism), Hotel Belmar has mastered the art of combining nature’s beauty with award-winning, sustainable hospitality. The cozy rooms, lush gardens, self-guided trail, organic dining, and an array of wellness services make Hotel Belmar a perfect hotel for all travelers looking for a nature rich experience with warm, local charm.

Hotel Belmar offers 22 rooms divided between eight different room categories. All the rooms are designed with an Austrian-chalet theme of floor to ceiling windows, wooden furniture, and large balconies or terraces offering views of the Nicoya Peninsula and the surrounding cloud forest canopy. Along with the scenic views, every room offers one king or two queen beds, minibar full of organic snacks, organic toiletries, safe, hair dryer, free local and international calls, complimentary Wi-Fi, bathrobes, slippers, all-day organic coffee delivery room service, and ceiling fans (except in the Forest and Forest Superior Rooms). There are no TVs or A/C at Hotel Belmar, but you’ll be comfortably entertained with the sights and sounds of the cloud forest as well as the cooler temperatures due to the higher elevation. For couples looking for romantic features, there are rooms with an open-concept bathroom (private toilet) and two-person Jacuzzi. For rooms with the best views, the Sunset and Sunrise rooms feature 270-degree views. Your stay at Hotel Belmar comes complete with a fresh breakfast including homemade jams, granola, breads, and freshly-made juices.
There is no shortage of on site activities or amenities to enjoy while staying at Hotel Belmar. Six of the nine acres on Hotel Belmar’s property are comprised of cloud forest, featuring a stream, waterfall, pond, and self-guided trail – Ave del Sol. The land and trail is part of the Bellbird Biological Corridor and presents guests with the opportunity to learn about the different types of flora and fauna, including the splendid Quetzal. Daily guided natural history tours depart at 7:45am (with an emphasis on bird watching) while night tours depart at 5:15pm. If you’re looking for a more challenging hike, you’ll also find access to the Cerro Amigos trail, which leads to the highest mountain in the region for spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean on a clear day. After working up an appetite hiking the trails, make sure to dine at Hotel Belmar’s Restaurante Celajes, a fine-dining experience using local and organic produce harvested from their gardens, greenhouse, and/or from vendors in the local town of Santa Elena. If you need a day’s rest from hiking or touring, sign-up for a yoga session or a spa treatment followed by a refreshing smoothie or soothing cup of tea from the Juice Bar and Tea Room. Throughout the month Hotel Belmar also features cultural exhibits in their yoga studio, such as Chorotega indigenous art by local artisan Marcelo Oliveira. At the end of the day, recap your adventures and soak your muscles in the large Jacuzzi located in the glass gazebo.
