Jaguar Reef, located outside the sleepy Garifuna Village of Hopkins, is the ideal place to curl up on a hammock and unplug. This laidback, no frills resort offers friendly service in comfortable rooms footsteps from the Caribbean Sea. With all the essentials of a boutique resort, it’s the perfect place for couples, families, or small groups looking to stay in a modest, beachfront hotel outside a quiet village community.
There are only 18 rooms divided between three categories at Jaguar Reef – Ocean View Cabanas, Beachfront Cabanas, and Two-Bedroom Beachfront Suites. Every room comes with A/C, ceiling fans, cable TV, Wi-Fi, iPod dock, mini fridge, coffee maker, purified water dispenser, balcony or porch with seating, and safe. The Ocean View Cabanas are spacious king bedrooms with tile floors, mahogany furnishings, and vaulted ceilings. Beachfront Cabanas also come with a king bed but are closer to the beach at just 60 feet away and offer full ocean views and private porch with hammock. The Two-Bedroom Beachfront Suites come with a queen bed in the master bedroom and either a king bed or two twins. The upper level 2-bedroom suites have high vaulted ceilings and balconies overlooking the pool and beach while the lower units have a large patio area steps from the beach.
While it’s perfectly acceptable to spend all your days doing absolutely nothing but enjoying the white sandy beach and Caribbean Sea, there are a number of on-site and nearby amenities to keep you entertained during your visit at Jaguar Reef. For starters a friendly smile at the swim-up pool bar serves delicious frozen cocktails and cold beverages to cool off under the hot sun. For families, a separate kids’ pool will keep the children entertained for hours while parents can relax poolside. Spend a half-day indulging in wellness treatments at the Butterfly Spa, a full service spa offering head-to-toe pampering. We highly recommend at least one snorkel or dive trip (if not a couple) within the Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest reef in the world. Explore the turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean on your own with complimentary kayaks or paddleboards (SUP) with hobie-cats available for rent as well. Off site there are a range of cultural, historic, and nature tours within a half-day and full-day’s trek – Mayan ruins, cave exploration, cave tubing, rappelling, zip-lining, horseback riding, jungle walks, waterfall hikes, birding, and the Belize Zoo. Nearby cultural activities in Hopkins will teach you about the local Garifuna culture through drumming, dance, and culinary experiences!
