American Trade Hotel
American Trade Hotel
Panama City, the ecological and cultural crossroads of the Americas, is shaped by an interesting contrast of modern glass towers with old forts and historic neighborhoods. The oldest neighborhood (over 340 years) and a UNESCO site, Casco Viejo, has been a recent focal point of renovation, attracting an artistic community that is giving new life to hundred-year-old, abandoned buildings. One such building, the newly opened American Trade Hotel, is appropriately named after the entity that once occupied it – American Trading Company. The hotel is a four-story building in the heart of Casco Viejo, facing the main Plaza Herrera. Its recent “facelift” is inspired by the building’s origin of international retail trade, combining design styles from around the world with a solid, colonial foundation (complete with hardwood flooring from sunken logs salvaged from the Panama Canal). The American Trade Hotel is the perfect hotel for anyone looking to experience rich culture and heritage with a buzzing colonial backdrop.
When your days aren’t busy exploring the various canal locks, climbing Ancon hill, sailing around San Blas’s white-sand islands, or interacting with indigenous communities, there is plenty to do in and around The American Trade Hotel. The pool deck located on the hotel’s rooftop offers panoramic views of Panama City’s skyline and is the perfect place to watch ships wait their turn to cross the canal. Or sip on 20’s and 30’s inspired cocktails while listening to internationally inspired music in Danilo Perez’s 50-seat Jazz Club. Danilo Perez is a renowned Panamanian jazz pianist and composer who dreamed of bringing a world-class jazz scene to Panama. When you’re hungry, farm-to-table ingredients create exceptional dining experiences in Lobby Café and Bar, where a complimentary continental breakfast is also served.
